~When a farmer imprisons an angel to "heal" his severely handicapped daughter, his demands -- and prayers -- are answered in ways he'd never dreamed. ~
"In Eyes Of A Child by C.S. Fuqua, Hollis prays for a miracle to transform his physically and mentally handicapped daughter. But when an angel comes, Hollis captures her... and pleads with her to do something. Hollis is dying, the child's mother is dead, and he knows how cruelly the world will treat his daughter once he is gone...In the end, [the angel] does help Hollis and Patsy, but in a way that [is] both tragic and joyful." -- Jim Reichart, Tangent Short Fiction Review, December 1999
"Angel think we gonna hurt her, Daddy."

The girl's grin faltered.
It groaned against the paralyzing slices of pain through Its back. It squinted into the dim light, gaze resting finally on the wall beyond the staircase. Fear crept into Its chest.
"You best stay put," the man said, stepping around the end of the girl's bed, stopping barely out of reach. "I had to cut them off. One got blown half-off anyway. I didn't think..." He looked away, his eyes going to the girl. "I really didn't mean to shoot you."
"You shot me?" Its voice rasped.
