Frequently asked questions:
How do I buy a book?
On each book page, there is an "add to cart" button. Add your book, you can always remove it later. On each page are buttons to view your shopping cart and to check out. Pressing the checkout button will send you to our secure shopping cart. We accept Visa and Mastercard.
After your purchase has been confirmed, usually within seconds, you will receive an email with a link to the download page and password for the book you have purchased. Follow the link to the download page and your book.
for PC users:
Click on the format you would like, a dialog box will appear. The box warns you that you are downloading a file--good, that is what you want to do.
Choose "run", the file downloads and you may get another security warning that you are downloading a file. Click on "run" again.
At this point, WinZip Self-Extractor will pop up. The default settings will unzip your book to c:\uncial on your hard drive. You may choose any other location you would like. Click "unzip."
The password window will pop up, enter the password we sent you in the confirmation email. Be careful about capital and small letters and numbers. Copy and paste from your email works well.
A pop-up box will inform you that your file was unzipped successfully.
For Mac users:
Click on your favorite format and it will download. Open with Stuffit Expander. Your book will appear on your desktop.
I did not receive an email receipt, what can I do?
The usual reason is a typo in the email address you provided. Never fear, email us at help@uncialpress.com with your order number if you have it. We will also need your name and which book(s) you ordered. We will search for your order and send you the download information.
Where are my books?
Check "C:\uncial" on your PC. This is where the books will arrive if you used the default settings. Mac users will find the book on the desktop.
Is your site secure?
Our shopping cart and credit card processor are secure sites and we do not store your financial information on our own servers.
May I get a refund on my purchase?
Our sales are final. eBooks are non-returnable and non-refundable. If you experience any problems with your download not addressed on this page, email us at help@uncialpress.com.
What is your privacy policy?
We will not share, sell, trade, or release your private information with anyone. We consider any information you submit or email as private and will not disclose it without your permission.
So how long is that book, anyway?
Based on a typical paperback book:
Novel Byte short stories are typically 5 to 25 thousand words or 15 to 70 pages of a typical paperback book.
Novellas run 25 to 40 thousand words or 70-115 pages.
A 50 thousand word novel approximates 120 pages.
A 70 to 90 thousand word novel will run between 200 and 275 pages of a typical paperback.
Of course, your page count will vary greatly depending on the format and screen size you choose. This is just a rough guide.
So how do we figure the reading time? From various sources we figured reading speed at from 250 to 350 words per minute for pleasure reading.
