The Uncial Letter NO. 1
The Uncial Letter
Volume 1, Number 1
October 13th, 2006
Doesn't that look spiffy! This is our very first ever issue and it's such a thrill to be writing it.
Welcome. We're tickled to have so many subscribers for our maiden issue. We hope you'll stay around and help us grow, because a publisher isn't much without a loyal cadre of readers. We need your help, too , to tell us what you want to read, to advise us on how we can better promote our stories, and to encourage our authors.
That last is the most important. Writers need lots of encouragement, because it's a lonely business. Sitting alone before a computer, pouring our your heart and soul, you start wondering if anybody cares. Will anyone read what you've written? And will they laugh when you want them to, weep when you hope they will, and eagerly turn the next page because they can't wait to see what will happen next? The only way to know the answers to these questions is if readers tell you. Every note from a reader is a treasure, tucked away and brought out to read when the muse is being stubborn or the reviewers savage.
WHAT'S COMING UP?
If you've visited our website, you know we're opening on 13 October. And if you haven't been there, why not? Around the first of September, we'll be putting up a 'coming soon' page, but here's a quick glimpse.
What happens when a young woman meets a man who could be her twin? In Lesley-Anne McLeod's exciting Regency, THE RAKE'S REFLECTION, you'll find out. Stay in England, but move ahead a couple of hundred years to help the characters in Susanne Marie Knight's TAINTED TEA FOR TWO discover who's responsible for the body in the library. Go West, and meet the members of an unusual extended family in Judith B. Glad's western historical series, "Behind the Ranges".
Some of you may not have met Lesley-Anne or Susanne. They're great folks, and we love them dearly for taking a chance on a brand new publisher like Uncial Press. They've both been writing a while, and if you haven't read their books, you're in for a treat.
Visit Lesley-Anne's website at www.lesleyannemcleod.homestead.com. She's got some short stories there for your reading pleasure, as well as a wealth of information about that fascinating period in English history, when Prinny wasn't quite a king, Beau Brummel changed men's styles forever, and the shape of our modern industrial society was being determined.
Susanne's website, www.susanneknight.com, is full of goodies. A contest, some articles that will amuse and inform you, information about her books, and a list of what's coming up. You can learn what she means by 'Romance Writing with a Twist', too. Take note of all the awards she's received and be impressed. We are, and that's why we're thrilled that she's one of the Uncials.
When you visit Judith's website at www.judithbglad.com, you'll probably catch on that she's also wearing the editor's hat here at Uncial Press. The best part of this is that she's been able to do some revising and polishing of her western historicals, making them better than ever.
We'll have a couple more great stories for you in November, then in December, we'll be giving you gifts--but you'll have to wait and see on those. In the meantime, check out our contest.
CONTEST? What contest? Oh, just one where we need your help naming our line of short reads for busy people--stories that can be read in an hour or less, while you're in between all the tasks that fill your days. Visit our website (www.uncialpress.com, remember) and learn more about it.
Now it's your turn. What do you want to see in this newsletter? More about the authors? More about their books?. More about us (aw, gee, gosh, blush, stammer...)? Recipes? Knitting patterns? Driving directions to the Oregon Coast? Or just lots of great reads? What kind of stories do you want? Would you like occasional poetry, perhaps some graphic novels, or an occasional how-to-write books? Use our contest address to write to us for now; later we'll have one just for comments and suggestions.
Back to what we said up front--you're important to us. We want you to keep us on our toes. Write to us, early and often. We promise to listen, even if we don't always have time to write a long reply.
