Periodically you just have to deal with STUFF.

What STUFF? Well, there's that STUFF that tends to congregate in your closet, for instance. Hangers--it's been said they mate and multiply in the dark. Shoes--they sort of migrate toward the far wall as they age, until one day you discover that there's a pile of them back there, and there's never an even number, even though shoes are supposed to come in pairs.

STUFF collects in the kitchen, too. Old spices all smell alike. If it weren't for the labels you wouldn't have a notion what that brown powder was. And dabs. Those are the worst. Dabs in the refrigerator tend to grow interesting crops of blue-green fuzz or black crust, while those in the back of the cupboard serve as nests and breeding grounds for the slow, yucky flying things we call weezels.

STUFF can be interesting too, and really valuable. Among our STUFF are a tin full of buttons that are at least a hundred years old, jars of beads from the 1890s (the jars are that old, too), and hundreds of postcards dating from the first two decades of the twentieth century, many with messages from our ancestors.

We particularly like the STUFF in bookcases, both real and virtual. Digging into it can be like meeting old friends you haven't seen for years. That's why we occasionally offer something that's been published before. Coming in the next few months will be a western, a couple of mysteries, and some other really good stories that we just had to bring back from the bookcases where they'd been all but lost among STUFF. Watch for them.

Right now we've got a couple of real treats for you in May. Laura is an exciting, sexy historical romance set in the Regency period. Lynne Connolly, writing as Lynne Martin, is always worth reading, and we think you'll find Laura one of her best, filled with a cast of interesting, if unconventional characters, intrigue and danger, and best of all, a thrilling love story.

C.S. Fuqua returns with a rare treat. THE SWING: POEMS OF FATHERHOOD is a collection of poetry chronicling his daughter's life from birth until early adolescence. If you're a parent, you'll find more than one of these poems speaking to you. And if you're not, perhaps they will evoke memories of your own childhood, and give you new insight into what your parents experienced.

Coming up in June is the first book in the Adam Larson mysteries from Ken Levinson (yes, we know we're dong this backwards, but that's life), and a couple of Novel Bytes. In A SHADOW IN THE NIGHT, Adam undertakes to help the sister of a missing woman accused of a high-tech embezzlement scheme and quickly discovers there's more to the caper than meets the eye. In Anna C. Bowling's Novel Byte, QUEEN OF THE OCEAN, you'll meet a wrecker's daughter and a pirate's son who have only one chance to reclaim their love and their future. When a cherry pie smells strongly of almond, one must taste cautiously. Learn why in Jaye Watson's mini-mystery, CAN SHE BAKE A CHERRY PIE?

The Cameo Awards celebrate excellence in romantic book video promotion. Our own TAINTED TEA FOR TWO, by Susanne Marie Knight, was a finalist for BEST ROMANTIC SUSPENSE in the Amateur Division. You can see the video trailer at http://www.uncialpress.com/books/taintedt/taintedtrailer.html. Way to go, Susanne!

There weren't any video cameras around in the Regency, but that didn't stop Lesley-Anne McLeod from making a couple of trailers to illustrate her books. Check these out:
